Hulu - Solar Opposites

Justin Roiland is on a roll. After the runaway success of adult animation Rick and Morty, he’s back at it again with Solar Opposites, a show about an alien family trying to make it on Earth. I worked with Hulu to promote seasons 1 and 2 of the show. Both campaigns featured highly customized copy and design that really spoke to the Imgur audience. The level of personalization really gave the show an extra edge when trying to appeal to the Imgur community.

Season 1 premiered in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, just when folks had about cleared their watchlist and were desperate for a new series to binge. The campaign I built around the premiere didn’t shy away from the show’s risque nature and lampooned the pandemic because if you didn’t laugh, you were going to cry.


 For season 2, Hulu wanted something new. We gave them a GIF war. An Imgur institution, a GIF war challenges multiple designers to create content around a common theme. The Imgur community at large chooses the winner. I recruited 5 GIF makers, assigned each a character, and provided them with assets from Hulu that showed off their character. The results were raunchy, risque, and damn funny.
